We had a cold spell last week but somehow escaped all the chaos of snow (I only saw a couple of snowflakes on Saturday morning and it all turned into heavy rain)as the temperature has risen.
I collected things that were looking good in the garden – Camellia, Skimmia and Pussy willow, Salix caprea (female tree I think).
旬の草木を集めてみました。椿、ツルシキミ(和名は今調べるまで知りませんでしたが)、ネコヤナギ。
It is so silky!!! (willow) ネコヤナギはとってもシルキー!!
I worked on my design assignment all day on Sunday and I completed it… apart from bulb planting plan that I would like to do separately. It is my very first planting plan and I am happy to have completed it. Well, at least until presentation day. I’m sure my tutor will find many mistakes and bad points then!
We are still working on the polytunnels and clearing the sight for ground work (it has already started and the contractors are working very fast). It makes me think about how much plastic we use and throw away. We have millions of plastic pots and plastic bits and pieces. We don’t have time (or not organised enough) to wash all used plastic pots, sterilise and reuse them. Some plastic start to break up with UV damage but these never degrade. I think we could be a bit more organised and reuse at least some of the pots. Polythene cover from old tunnels and metals are taken to recycling and we are having concrete bits crushed on site to be used for paths etc. It is great, compared to all of these going to landfill!
